Title: All time favorite plane
Post by: Pheonix on December 06, 2015, 02:42:23 PM
If you could fly any plane, what would you fly? For me, it's the P-47 because it has tough armour, strong engine, fast, can switch between fighter and bomber which it can do both jobs very well, and it has 8 machine guns, up to 2000lb of bombs, and rockets that are more than enough to take out a tank

Bf.109, I like all versions but my favorite are G-2/trop and the K-4. I also really like Ta152. If I were to choose a plane for combat i would choose the Ta, but I like 109s a little bit more.

#1. Bf.109 (all versions)
#2 Ta152
#3 P47

It's not extremely tall,About average for a Jet aircraft of the 60s and Present time, still ad big aircraft though

Over exaggerated about the tail. What's cool though is when you get up close to one of those things and they're bigger than they look.

Nope.

It's a Ki-84. I've watched the whole P-51 episode, look at the moment in that episode, when the Japanese plane overshoots the P-51 (which is right before one of the scenes in the Danger Zone music. It's a Ki-84 by its looks. If it was an N1K, there would be four muzzle flashes from the wings (4 20mm), but the Ki-84 uses two nose-mounted guns and two wing-mounted guns.

How do you plan to fit this on a fighter? Where would you store ammo if it was on a bomber? Where would you put it on a Bomber?

Yes, from what I can work out its 20 mm, but fires 75 shots a second with deadly accuracy
Title: Re: All time favorite plane
Post by: Matt™ on December 16, 2015, 08:53:56 PM
It's just an M-61...only reason it's so accurate is because it has a hell of a lot more controlling it and it's Either moving No more then 35 knots on a ship or Completely stationary

It's deadly but a moving ship trying to hit a missle is actually harder than it appears.

Yeah I know, and it would serve absolutely no purpose,to be able to fire it'd have to be slow on a straight path,as its remotely controlled
It can fire on its own, but it needs confirmation from a human controller.

And yes, it also has the ability to be controlled by a human controller, but that's mainly during training or fighting against swarm vessels and small boats.

Since it's programmed, with its effective computing power (especially on the latest blocks), to hit targets in accordance to speed, the computing systems may be able to easily land quite a few hits on enemy targets travelling at mach 2. As bullets travel at mach 2, any aircraft cruising under mach 2 (let's say, the C-130), the Phalanx can easily be programmed to compute with the idea that it's on an aircraft travelling at around 500 knots in its systems. Against a non-target on a 500-knot cruising aircraft, it's basically having the Phalanx shift its trajectory as if it were firing at a target travelling 500 knots.

Aircraft against aircraft? Lots of computing needed. Two aircraft travelling at the exact same speed, the Phalanx needs to shift its trajectory as if it were, on a ship, firing against an aircraft travelling, say, mach .8.

Basically leading your target. Almost like in a turret though faster.

On top of that, the Hog pilot is the only Air Force critter around that can operate a weapon system with the mind of a grunt. Those guys are 100% customer service for the troop on the other end of the radio. We would refuel them down range and when a TIC call would come up, you've never seen two aircraft vertically separate as fast as that Hog and our tanker. Best sorties I've ever flown.

It's the only airplane that th bad guys run from when they hear it on station. They know that bird can loiter and the drivers love to use that gun.

As far as being susceptible to modern AA countermeasures, that stuff is so advanced anymore, I challenge anyone to find an airplane completely invincible. Ask the F-117 pilot in Serbia what hit him!

A modified version of an older SAM Site XD

Any aircraft is only as good as it's tactics. You fight to safeguard your vulnerabilities and maximize your attributes.

I find my favoritism with the Dassault Ralafe...something about it sparks my interest. I also have a strong affinity with the F-16.

I've only done that at 45 degrees of bank. It's impressive!

Now, imagine that BUFF doing CAS at low altitude. What a beast.

With the development of radar-guided autocannon air defenses (20mm, 30mm, 40mm Gatling guns and autocannons), I would doubt that beast would survive a huge net of anti-air defenses...

So drop the air defenses with stand offs first. That's what cruise missles are for!

Would a require a lot of Cruise misses as Modern AA is designed to knock them out

Just need to do some slap and tickle! Air defenses can be subdued in many ways... The idea behind the stand-off weapons is to create that corridor for the BUFF to penetrate. Combined with their low-level capabilities, it's a survivable environment for sure. And trust me, I've seen those things down in the dirt in western Kansas many times...well below 500agl lol

The B-52G/H Orpington is a breed of BUFF built in the city of Wichita, in south-central Kansas, which was made famous in part by this breed. It was bred to be an excellent low-level penetrator with good survivable qualities. Its large size and hefty appearance, together with its SIOP colour and rough contours make it very attractive, and as such its popularity has grown as a show bird rather than a utility breed. BUFFs often become broody and are good mothers to it's crew. Although rather heavy, they are able to fly long distances, and do so often --- Taken from wiki's definition and modified slightly... Couldn't help myself after looking up Orpington lol ;-)

Using stand-off weaponry is reasonable, though if enemy defenses are heavy enough, the standoff weapons aren't going to be too effective (though still effective if saturation is in play). It'd be an even bigger mess if the enemy had mass units of MANPADS as well as defensive systems such as the CRAM and Pantsir-S1s. Eventually, hostile air support will be inbound to A) support the defensive against stand-off weapons or B) counter hostile stand-off weaponry with their own stand-off weaponry.

However, MALDs. Please, mix this with HARMs and JSOWs and any air defense system is done.

Of course they are armed. They have your credit card criminal records and pistols pointed to your head as they put you in the police van.

For me, it's P-51. It's fast, fantastic design, and good engine. Its maneuver is very good in high altitude. Real threat to nazis during ww2. But I like another plane too.

That's a hard question for me, I've got about a billion planes I'd want to fly
